What Kinds of Pictures Do You Want to Take?

There's a wonderful post over at Digital Photography School called "My Photography Bucket List" by Jennifer Jacobs / Darren Rowse (click here to read it)

A bucket list is simply a collection of ideas for images that you could make – whenever you run out of ideas you can just reach down into the bucket and pull out something from the list. Sometimes another photographer makes a great image and so you might like to try to make a similar one, and sometimes you might come up with a few of your own ideas.

Here's a few subjects or actions that I'd like to photograph someday:

  • A saw-whet owl in flight.
  • A panoramic view of a glacier field in Alaska.
  • A picture of me skiing that makes me look impressive :)
  • A high speed photo of a bullet going through an apple. I know, it's stupid and it's been done before. But think of the timing!!
  • A magnified image of the Orion Nebula. All I need is to make or get a motorized equatorial mount.
  • Robots in a car factory. I don't know why. It seems cool.
That's just a few. So I'm curious: what kinds of pictures would you like to make?

Take a few minutes to brainstorm a list of 5-10 images that you haven't made yet but that you'd like to create – what would they look like? How would you make them?

Then post a few of your favorite ideas here, as a comment...

Need ideas? take a look at the comments at the article linked above.

My Photo Bucket List:

A picture of snow drifts on Mount Everest

A long exposure photo of the Aurora Borealis

A picture of doorframe in an empty field

A picture of something light-painted (Anything would work, really. Light painting is just so cool) http://jogiart.deviantart.com/art/Fabia-Light-45559125

High-speed water art like this http://alexiuss.deviantart.com/art/Water-fairy-128204062

I'd like to get some action shots of my friends playing frisbee. Maybe some at the beach, of people sailing, or something. Mostly I just like to take pictures of whatever seems interesting at the time.

Some Bucket List Thoughts:

1. Getting a picture of the Green Flash in the Florida Keys (google it)

2. Working with wild animal shots would be interesting

3. I am always looking for good streams and rivers to take slow shutter shots

4. Northern Lights

5. Good shots of either lunar or solar eclipse's

6. Pictures of Constellations

N: we will be doing some light-painting in our class. :)

Alex: watch the K index at spaceweather.com to see when there are chances of northern lights... they do happen here in the berkshires sometimes...

Walter: good! Frisbee's a tough subject -- needs high shutter speed.

Ok...so I thought of some cool things that would not only interest me but would involve me conquering some fears!!

-Self Portrait, I have always been camera shy and would have to learn how to place my camera and myself to get a shot that I intended.

-High down looking view of a city

-360 degree view landscape at different seasonal time collage. Both of these adventures would require me to get over my great fear of heights and my vertigo issue.

-Tree full of black crows. I would have to be at the right place at the right time...no staging here.

-A tornado...they scare me but they are incredible! I would have to become a storm chaser I guess to get this shot.

-Glass shattering. I would have to give up some of my glasses and have a helper assisting with the dropping. Light would be important!!

-Demolition of a building. Sad and fun to watch. The time of the day that this may occur could make it difficult to get good natural light.

-Shadows. I never thought of shadow photographs until know and think it would be fun to photoshop a bunch of different shadows together in one photo.

-Drag Queens on stage. They pose, have awesome make-up and clothing!!

-A close up shot of a spider....I am frightened but intrigued with their body. I think i would have to get a lens that allowed for extremely close, sharp photos

Oh and a mouse caught in action, eating in a human kitchen!!! Just saw Ratatouille. This would require me staying up late, and leaving food out. Sounded like a good idea, but maybe not!!

Thanks Signe -- sounds good! We'll have a chance to do some of those in this class, such as self-portrait. :)

I'm not sure where my first post went but I guess there's endless ideas to this list so:

1) A sun set/rise over the ocean
2) The leaf process on trees
3) Underwater
4) Tropical animals and land
5) Water drops on plants

i like her idea of the drawing out of an hat that can be a motivator and also it can take out of your comfort zone and kind of make you take photos of new things.

Ali and Steph -- good ideas. And yes, those are all things you could figure out how to do for this class.
(if you can find a zoo w/tropical animals...)

My photo bucket list requires travel for most of them..

1) Big cats of Africa.
2) Wild animals in general.
3) A Shinto shrine.
4) Portraits of people out in nature.
5) Photos that give a sense of something magical. For example, I found this photo and loved it: http://www.flickr.com/photos/thenightshedied/5360627522/in/photostream/
6) A silhouetted man on the side of a road with a duffel bag.
7) Couples on a beach.
8) Cathedral and church shots.
